About the artist

Ruby Red is the indie-electronic duo made up by Daniel Laner and Fernando Fine. The two originally met in kindergarten in Oakland, California, and have since cultivated a sound lauded for its unique blend of diverse influences that reflect the diversity of the Bay Area; everything from Green Day, to Lil B, to Tower of Power.

As the boys have (ostensibly) matured since their kindergarten days, so has the music. Lush, synth-forward production meets a refined DIY approach (the duo write, record, and mix everything themselves) that, when combined with their emotionally precise songwriting, results in a sound that is as fresh as it is difficult to categorize.

Over the years, the group has been featured on the likes of Zane Lowe’s Apple Music show, Elton John’s radio show, the cover of Spotify’s “anti-pop” playlist (as well as Fresh Finds, Indie Sleaze, Best of Indie), and SXSW, and were recipients of Amazon Music’s “Breakthrough” artist grant. Their single “Too Late (To Call)” was named one of the best songs of 2022 by the San Francisco Chronicle and was featured in Billboard’s roundup of best new pop
